Shuttles
Tapestry
Bobbins
These
Gobelin-style tapestry bobbins are beautifully crafted in hardwood and
have a lacquer finish. Barry Schacht designed these after actual Gobelin
bobbins to echo the design of this traditional tapestry tool. Available
in packages of ten.
Tapestry
Beaters
Three
styles of tapestry beaters: single-ended, double-ended, and a weighted
single-ended. All are made of hard maple and have a smooth Danish oil
finish. The wooden teeth are set at five per inch. The weighted beater
has about five ounces of lead weight inserted into the end to provide
more impact for tighter weaving.

Shuttles
Schacht offers a large selection of shuttles. All of the shuttles are
made of hard maple and are finely sanded and hand finished with a Danish
oil. The boat shuttles are periodically offered in specialty woods,
such as oak and cherry, and more exotic woods such as purple heart and
lace wood.
Boat
Shuttles
Boat shuttles are beautifully shaped and well balanced. They are sanded
smooth and then given a hand-rubbed Danish oil finish. Four sizes are
available: 9", 11", 13", and 15". The smallest boat
shuttle, the 9" mini, is styled after a Japanese silk shuttle.
This duck-nosed shuttle is wonderful for narrow widths and fine yarns.
The most popular boat shuttle, the 11" boat shuttle, is offered
in slim and regular models with closed-bottom and open-bottom styles.
The two largest boat shuttles are 13" and 15" long, and can
handle fine to medium weight yarns. Because of their extra length and
yarn capacity, weavers often choose these shuttles for wider weaving
widths. Also offered are slim and regular double-bobbin boat shuttles
which are ideal for doubled weft threads. Two separate bobbin shafts
make it possible to remove one bobbin at a time. All boat shuttles are
available in hard maple and some models are also available in cherry.
Roller
Boats
It looks like an ordinary 11" Schacht boat shuttle, but underneath
are little zippy rollers. Now this Scandinavian-style favorite is available
in the familiar Schacht Boat Shuttle shape.
Our plastic bobbins come in three sizes. The 4" bobbins fit the
9" mini, the 11" shuttles, and both double-bobbin boat shuttles;
the 5" bobbins fit the 13" shuttles; and the 6" bobbins
fit the 15" shuttles The bobbins have specially designed ends for
trouble-free release of yarn.

End-Delivery
Shuttles
The Schacht End-Delivery shuttles are the ultimate in shuttles designed
especially and precisely for handweavers. They are lightweight, comfortable
to throw and catch, adjustable to a variety of yarns, and easy-really
easy-to thread. The end-delivery shuttles are available in 12"
and 15" sizes.
End-delivery
shuttles use pirns. The 12" shuttle takes our red 6" pirn,
and the 15" shuttle uses our black 8" pirn.

Swords

Stick
Shuttles
The simplest and most versatile of all shuttles. They are available
in 9", 12", 16", 20", 24" and 30" lengths.
It is recommended that you choose a stick shuttle slightly longer than
the width of your warp.
Weaving
Swords
Weaving swords are designed for Navajo weaving and lend themselves well
to other simple tapestry and backstrap looms. The beveled edge on one
side can be used to press the weft into place.
Pick-up
Sticks
To complement the three large weaving swords, the wide range of pick-up
sticks offer just the right tool for the task at hand. The Beefy pick-up
sticks are 1 1/2" wide and come in 20", 25", and 30"
lengths; the Medium pick-up sticks are 1 1/8" wide and come in
18", 22", and 26" lengths; the Petite pick-up sticks
are 7/8" wide and are available in 8", 12" and 16"
lengths. All are double-pointed, made of hard maple and finished with
Danish oil.
Temples
Temples, or stretchers, are used to keep weaving from drawing in. It
has sharp teeth on the underside that are pushed into the edges of the
fabric at the fell of the cloth to keep the fabric from drawing in.
Temples are most often used for rug weaving and for fine fabric, especially
for linen warp threads
Ski
Shuttles
Made to hold medium to heavy yarns, the 24" ski shuttle is designed
so that the yarn is wrapped horizontally around the top of the ski.
This leaves a smooth bottom for sliding smoothly across the warp.
Rag
Shuttles
These broad, sturdy shuttles have been traditionally used for rag weaving,
though they are also excellent for heavy rug wools and bulky chenilles.
Available in 14" and 20" lengths.
Rug
Shuttle
This beautiful shuttle is carved from a single piece of hard maple.
It's good for medium to heavy yarns. It's 20" long and has a low
profile.
